NRVSS 2014 Schedule

The NRV Summer Seminar (Prague 2014) focused on four different but interconnected themes. Every theme was discussed over two consecutive days, being divided into three subsections (Framework and Theory, Interdisciplinary Approach, Case Study) and a fieldwork. Overall, the Seminar took place over 10 days, 60 working hours including fieldwork trips. In addition, a Sunday trip to Terezín (Theresienstadt) memorial was organized. The themes specification and schedule was following:

June 23, 2014 – Program Opening

  • Introduction to the program
  • Keynote lecture: James Hughes
  • Prague City Tour – guided tour through the historical center of the city
  • Welcome drink

 June 24-25, 2014 – Theme 1: Institutions and Politics

  • Sections with Nikos Skoutaris, James Ker-Lindsay and Jessie Hronešová
  • Fieldwork: United Nations Information Center in Prague

 June 26-27, 2014 – Theme 2: Nationalism and Religion

  • Sections with Jacques Rupnik, Emil Souleimanov and Robert Gerwarth 
  • Fieldwork: Tracing War and Genocide in Prague

June 29, 2014 – Trip to Terezín Ghetto Memorial (Theresienstadt)

June 30-July 1, 2014 – Theme 3: Violence and Genocide

  • Sections with Elias Dinas, Atina Grossmann and Kateřina Čapková
  • Fieldwork: Visual History Archive (Malach Center for Visual History) / The Jewish Museum in Prague

 July 2-3, 2014 – Theme 4: Memory

  • Sections with Hana Kubátová, Giorgos Antoniou and Dirk Moses
